1oddday on Oct. 18, 1973 - A four man US military crew aboard an Army helicopter - piloted by Capt. Lawrence J. Coyne, planned on stopping in the city of Mansfield, OH. to refuel when something strange happened to them.
Flying near Charles Mills Lake, the men noticed a bright red light flying directly at them. Coyne quickly prepped the helicopter for technical maneuvers hoping to avoid a mid air collision, when suddenly the red beam appeared right before them. Covering the entire windshield of the chopper, was a metallic cigar shaped object with multiple distinctive lights all over. Surprisingly the UFO then began scanning their cockpit with a bright green light beam, before flying off into the skies above Mansfield.
An official report was filed in 1973 including a sketch of the UFO, with Coyne urging the military to further investigate the matter. The Mansfield mystery is still regarded as one of the most credible UFO cases in history. Not only because of the crews credibility (U.S. Army Capt. Larry Coyne, 1st Lt. Arrigo Jezz, Sgt. John Healey, Sgt. Robert Yanacsek), but also because of the many civilian sightings that were also made from the ground on that same night reporting a strange red light over Mansfield.
