Human / Monkey Chimeras-

🐒 1oddday April 15, 2021 -- Researchers at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California have successfully created the first ever human-monkey chimera. They have conducted this experiment that entails growing human stem cells within a macaque monkey embryo. 🙈

🙊 There's been a growing discussion against this type of research, as some call it an unethical experiment with man attempting to act as god. ⛪️

🔬Belmonte, a professor in the gene expression laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, also one of the scientists involved in the chimera experiment -- explained that the intention of the experiment is aimed at learning the language of early human embryo development. Belmonte also believes this breakthrough will lead to better understanding human development, disease progression, and drug therapies. Another potential benefit of this experiment is to generate human tissues for organ transplantation potentially. 🫀🫁
